Donetsk, Dec 14 - DAN. DPR Special Commission investigating Ukrainian authorities’ crimes in Donbass has filed more than 9,000 cases over civilian casualties, illegal detentions and property destruction relying on evidence in the period since May 2016, the republic’s acting Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova said on Thursday.
“The Special Commission’s key objective is finding and documenting the evidence of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by the Ukrainian state in DPR territory as well as crime-related damage,” Nikonorova said. “As of late 2017, 9,120 such cases have been filed.”
According to the minister, 193 cases were opened over killed or wounded children, more than 1,000 cases over casualties sustained by the adult population and more than 7,700 cases over damage to private property and infrastructure.
The Commission was set up at DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko’s order on 30 May 2016. It documents crimes against humanity and war crimes by Ukrainian army in DPR territory. The Republic intends to present the information to international judicial bodies. On top of that, the Commission is implementing the strategy to inform the international community about war crimes and violations committed by Ukrainian leadership.
