Donetsk, Sep 20 – DAN. DPR has celebrated the International Day of Peace and commemorated the victims of Kiev’s offensive against Donbass today.

Almost 300 people - MPs, students, representatives of social organizations and Donetsk authorities - gathered by the monument to Donbass Liberators in the Leninskiy Komsomol park to participate in memorial rally ‘Bell of Peace’.

The participants brought banners saying ‘Peace is the Future’, ‘STOP war’, ‘Donbass, hold on’.

The memory of the victims was commemorated with a minute’s silence and a famous song Don't Think That Seconds is Nothing (Moments), the main theme of a renown Soviet war film Seventeen Moments of Spring.

Director of Donetsk school No.63 told the story of two pupils who died in Kiev’s shelling in the autumn 2014.

“Danila Kuznetsov and Andrey Eliseyev were joyful kids, and loved life. An enemy’s shell exploded taking their lives and dreams. We ask the world community to turn eye to us.”

DPR social movement Donbass Oplot plans to hold the memorial rally annually.

The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly and has been observed annually on 21 September. It is dedicated to world peace, the absence of war and violence, such as might be occasioned by a temporary ceasefire in a combat zone for humanitarian aid access. *ot
