Donetsk, Jun 22 — DAN. Exhumation of the remains of Ukrainian nationalists’ victims in Artyomovsk will begin after completion of the mine clearance operation in the town, Donetsk People’s Republic ombudsperson Darya Morozova said on Thursday.

“The Interdepartmental Commission met last week to sum up the results of its work and map out future plans, ” Morozova told the Donetsk News Agency adding that it had thoroughly discuss the plans for Artyomovsk.

“We very much hope that we’ll be able to launch the search for burial sites and bodies after Artyomovsk demining. We’re just waiting for a better security and mine clearance situation, ” she said.

In the summer of 2021, the DPR set up an interdepartmental commission on the search for missing persons. They include representatives of the Republics’ leadership, law-enforcement bodies and experts. The Commission organizes the search, composes a register of the missing, gathers information on them, creates a database of the missing, deceased and their relatives, coordinates exhumation and identification of bodies and their handover to relatives.

DPR Head Denis Pushilin expanded the Commission’s powers in March 2022. A similar body is operating in the Lugansk People’s Republic.*jk
