Donetsk, Aug 9 — DAN. More than 93,000 families in the new regions have received the maternity capital subsidy in these territories or elsewhere in Russia, the Social Fund press service reported on Wednesday.

“The Social Fund has issued maternity capital certificates to 40,600 families in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, ” the press service said. “The recipients were 14,500 families in the DPR, 14,500 families in the LPR, 8,300 families in the Zaporozhye region and 3,300 families in the Kherson region.”

Another 52,400 families applied for the subsidy in other Russian regions. As of July 21, 85,000 families from the new regions had received maternity capital certificates. Donetsk People’s Republic Acting Head Denis Pushilin said that other child benefits might be paid in addition to maternity capital.

Maternity capital is a method of state support to Russian families as part of the national project “Demography.” It supports Russian families to which a second or a third child or more was born or adopted beginning from 2007, provided that this right is not assigned in the birth (adoption) of a second child.  Since January 1, 2020, maternity capital is provided after the birth of the first child.

At present, it is worth 586,900 rubles for first child and 775,600 rubles for second child if the family did not claim the subsidy for the first child. The money can be spend for improvement of housing condition, child’s education, social adaptation of children with disabilities and a funded pension of the mother.*jk
