Donetsk, Aug 22 - DAN. As many as 460 residents of Kiev-controlled part of Donetsk Region took part in DPR sport events since the Republic launched the Donbass people reunification humanitarian programme.

“As of 22 August, 2017, 460 people from Kiev-held areas of Donetsk Region have taken part in 51 sports events arranged by DPR sport federations, town administrations and public organisations within the framework of the humanitarian programme,” DPR Youth, Sports and Tourism Minister Mikhail Mishin told a news briefing at Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday.

The largest number of participants came from Mariupol, Artyomovsk and Volnovakhskiy and Yasinovatskiy Districts. The participants in the age group 18-25 were most active. The mass participation events in the past six months included “Heroes Race,” Sniper Cup Open billiard tournament and “Rural Games” republican competitions between DPR districts’ teams.

On February 17, DPR and LPR Heads Alexander Zakharchenko and Igor Plotnitskiy launched the Donbass people reunification programme. The main objective is to support socially vulnerable groups of the population. It provides for medical and financial assistance, quotas for higher and vocational education, sport events and measures to preserve spiritual and cultural values which residents of Kiev-held territories are welcome to join.*jk
