Donetsk, Aug 17 - DAN. DPR capital on Thursday hosted the first forum highlighting women’s role in shaping a single cultural space. The event was launched at the Donetsk National Academic Music and Drama Theatre.

“Today’s forum, supported by DPR head Alexander Zakharchenko, has gathered Donbass women and is timed with the 25th anniversary of the women’s organisation (Donbass Women - eds Donetsk News Agency) DPR acting Culture Minister Mikhail Zheltyakov said in opening speech.

“Cultural development can hardly be conceived without women’s involvement; their role in creativity is very high. The forum calls for consolidating women and creating a single cultural space both in DPR and Kiev-held territory,” the acting minister said.

Zheltyakov congratulated Donbass Women leader Vera Pamazan with the organisation’s jubilee and presented flowers to her.

“Earlier, we used to be one of the largest public organisations; regrettably, that is not the case now. Despite the fighting, we’ll continue our work and do everything to make the world better,”Pamazan told DAN. “Some 100 activists from all over Donbass have gathered here today, 40 of them have come from Ukraine-controlled part of the region.”

The two-day forum will focus on patriotic, spiritual and aesthetic upbringing of younger generations, the role of women’s organisations in preserving folk traditions and customs and their interaction with culture facilities.

On February 17, DPR and LPR Heads Alexander Zakharchenko and Igor Plotnitskiy launched the Donbass people reunification programme.

The main objective is to support socially vulnerable groups of the population. It provides for medical and financial assistance, quotas for higher and vocational education, sport events as well as measures to preserve spiritual and cultural values which residents of Kiev-held territories are welcome to join.*jk
