Donetsk, Jul 24 - School No 116 in Donetsk’s frontline Petrovskiy district which was ruined during the fighting in 2014, will open its doors to pupils on September 1, district administration head Maxim Zhukovskiy told the Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday.
“Majors repairs are underway on School No 116 which sustained damage in 2014 fighting. All this time, 284 children have attended other schools; on September 1 they will return to their neighbourhood school,” Zhukovskiy said.
“The right wing of the building is currently being renovated; subsequent left wing repairs will not affect the teaching process, he added.
State-owned Donbassgaz concern specialists said that work had begun to lay a gas pipe to the school and build a boiler house to ensure reliable and uninterrupted gas supply to the school and the nearby apartment house at 13a Bokiya Street.
Donetsk’s Petrovskiy district is among the city areas which have been worst hit by Ukrainian army strikes. The closest Ukrainian forces positions are located some 1,000 metres from district neighbourhoods. During the conflict, much of local infrastructure sustained damage in shelling by Ukrainian army units.*jk
