Donetsk, Oct 12 - DAN. The video conference of the Contact Group subgroup on security issues has not yielded any results; the problem of introducing the coordination mechanism remains unresolved, said the Donetsk People’s Republic Office at the Join Centre for Control and Coordination (JCCC).
“The updated draft addendum to the “Additional Measures to Strengthen the Ceasefire” was put on today’s agenda. It regulates the parameters of operation of the coordination mechanism, whose effective functioning can decrease tensions on the contact line, “ the DPR Office said.
During the talks, Donetsk urged Ukraine to respond to ceasefire violations and provide, at the JCCC level, the feedback in the form of probes, as it is done in the DPR.
“However, Kiev representatives were not receptive to the arguments for unblocking the full-fledged operation of the coordination mechanism, so this round of talks was unavailing,” the JCCC said.
The Contact Group agreed and signed a package of tighter ceasefire control measures in Donbass on July 22, 2020. It came into effect five days later. The “Measures” envision the search for and punishment of ceasefire violators. Also, they provided for designing and launching a coordination mechanism for quick response to violations with the assistance of the JCCC in the current membership. However, the expected dialogue failed as Kiev blocked the mechanism right after the adoption of the “Measures.” A new document was drawn to overcome this problem. *jk
