Donetsk, Sep 12 — DAN. President Vladimir Putin has proposed to amend Article 11 of the Federal Law on Days of Military Glory and Remembrance Days in Russia adding September 30 as Day of Reunification of the Donbass Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions with the Russian Federation.
“September 30, 2022 will do down in recent history as the day of accession to the Russian Federation of the Donetsk People’s Republic, the Lugansk People’s Republic, the Zaporozhye region and the Kherson region as constituent entities, ” said the explanatory note to the document. “The event is based on historical community of the peoples living in the territories of the above republics and regions, and results from the expression of will of millions of people, realization of their inalienable right to to determine their political status freely and without outside interference and carry out their economic, social and cultural development.”
The new regions held referenda from September 23 to September 27, 2022 on their accession to the Russian Federation as constituent entities. The DPR reported an unprecedented voter turnout with an unprecedented 99.23 percent of ballots cast for a future together with Russia. At that time, the Donetsk News Agency highlighted the voting in the Kalininsky and Budyonnovsky districts of Donetsk, Mariupol and other towns of the Republic.
