Donetsk, May 11 - DAN. DPR acting Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova and her South Ossetian counterpart Murat Dzhioyev signed a protocol in Donetsk on Thursday on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

“Today, DPR Foreign Minister Natalia Nikonorova and the South Ossetian foreign minister signed a protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of South Ossetia and the Donetsk People’s Republic,” DPR Foreign Ministry press service told Donetsk News Agency.

Nikonorova said the signing of the document would help set the procedure for exchanging diplomatic missions at the embassy level in the near future. DPR thus will have its first ever embassy in South Ossetia.

"The protocol also provides for closer interaction between the two foreign ministries to ensure more effective protection of our citizens’ rights,” she said.

Earlier on Thursday DPR and South Ossetia signed the first intergovernmental friendship and cooperation treaty.

South Ossetia President Anatoliy Bibilov is currently in Donetsk. He is taking part in the celebrations marking the 3rd anniversary of DPR state sovereignty referendum. *jk
