Donetsk, Aug 13 – DAN. Ukraine must recommit to the ceasefire if it truly wants to bring peace to Donbass, DPR representative in the security subgroup Alexey Nikonorov said commenting on Kiev's suggestion to hold an emergency meeting.

"Representatives of Ukraine spare no effort to picture themselves as concerned about the escalation at the contact line in the eyes of the international community, while they are responsible for the escalation," he said pointing to the fact that Ukraine had called on summoning an emergency meeting to "allegedly adopt some decision on rigorous ceasefire".

Nikonorov reminded that such a decision had been adopted on July 28; since then Ukrainian attacks claimed lives of a civilian woman and 10 DPR defenders, a civilian man and four servicemembers sustained injures, 22 houses had been hit by Ukrainian projectiles.

"We consider the new initiative to be a meaningless attempt to imitate eager enthusiasm taking advantage of our adherence to the agreements. If Ukraine truly wants peace, it should just recommit to the rigid adherence to the agreements and stop shelling civilians."

The Additional Measures to Strengthen the Ceasefire were signed at the Contact Group meeting on July 22 to reinforce and control the indefinite ceasefire in effect since July 21, 2019, the latest in the series of more than 20 reconfirmation and announcements of the “silence regime”. The package came into effect on July 27. *ot
