Donetsk, Sep 13 - DAN. The situation with extending the Donbass special status law which expires on November 11 is critical, acting Donetsk People’s Republic Foreign Minister, DPR envoy to the Tripartite Contact Group in Minsk Natalia Nikonorova told reporters on Thursday.

“The situation with extending the operation of the law on special status, which has to be amended by October 11, is critical,” Nikonorova said. “ However, we’ll be making all efforts towards implementation of all provisions of the Package of Measures.”

On October 6, 2017, Ukraine’s Verkhovnaya Rada (parliament) passed the law «On creating conditions for a peaceful settlement of the situation in certain districts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions» which extended the operation of the law on special status of Donbass for another year.

The Ukrainian parliament had to adopt the document due to the fact that the law granting special self-rule status to certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions expired on October 18, 2017. This law, adopted back in 2014 is crucial for political settlement in eastern Ukraine.*jk
