Donetsk, Oct 30 – DAN. DPR and LPR have invited Eamon Gilmore, Special Representative of the European Union for Human Rights, to visit the Republics so that he can personally assess the situation on the ground and not draw conclusions based on unknown sources, according to a joint statement by the DPR Minister of Foreign Affairs Natalia Nikonorova and LPR Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladislav Deinogo.

Earlier, on October 29, in an interview with RBK-Ukraine, Gilmore expressed concerns about the human rights situation in the DPR and LPR. He noted that he "saw reports on what is happening in places of detention, torture, sexual harassment", without detailing what are the reports and who issued them.

"Mr. Gilmour has not requested to visit prisons in Donbass, and it is clearly inappropriate for an official of this level to draw conclusions about the situation on the basis of rumours and other speculations. We call on Mr. Gilmore to refuse the one-sided approach in his assessments that does not only affect his professional reputation, but also directly contributes to the escalation of the conflict in Donbass. We also invite the EU special representative for human rights to visit the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics in person, and to take part in the meetings of the Contact Group and its working groups," the joint statement reads. *ot
