Donetsk, Jun 7 - DAN. A woman has been killed and a man has been wounded in Ukrainian armed formations’ strike at Svetlodarsk, the Donetsk People’s Republic Territorial Defense Headquarters reported on Tuesday.
“Ukrainian gunmen have delivered an artillery strike at Svetlodarsk,” the report said. “A 64-year-old man was wounded as the market place came under fire; his 62-year-old wife died of her wounds.”
Svetlodarsk is located 18 kilometers north of Debaltsevo. It was founded in 1968. The town accommodates the Uglegorskaya thermal power plant, one of the largest in Europe. On April 29, 2014, a rally in the town adopted a resolution in support of the Donetsk People’s Republic independence referendum. Ukrainian troops occupied the town in the summer of 2014.
The Russian coalition liberated Svetlodarsk in late May 2022. After the liberation, it was included in the responsibility zone of the Debaltsevo administration and now has a local authority.*jk
