Donetsk, May 3 - DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic secret service officers detained a Ukrainian national on suspicion of spying and masterminding acts of terror, the DPR State Security Ministry (MGB) reported on Thursday.

“The State Security Ministry of the Donetsk People’s Republic detained Ukrainian citizen Viktor N.Dzytsyuk, 30, on suspicion of spying for Ukrainian secret services,” it said.

Dzytsyuk was recruited by Ukrainian intelligence agents at a crossing point in April 2016, according to the MGB. He passed intelligence to Ukraine on the number of DPR troops and their deployment. In May 2016, he smuggled a bomb into the DPR planning to blast a car.

“Dzytsyuk repeatedly travelled to Ukraine-controlled territory for collecting remuneration and receiving new assignments. He was detained after returning from one of such trips,” the MGB said.

Criminal proceedings were opened under Article 321 (Espionage) and Article 256, Part 2 (Illegal turnover of weapons). The detainee is now in custody. He faces 12 to 20 years in prison if found guilty.

Reports on Wednesday said the Supreme Court had sentenced a former Donetsk judge to six years imprisonment for perversion of justice.*jk
