Donetsk, Sep 5 - DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic Supreme Court Appeals Chamber handed down a verdict to a Ukrainian spy, the DPR Prosecutor General’s Office press service reported on Thursday.

“The DPR Supreme Court Appeals Chamber passed a sentence on a foreign intellitence spy. The PGO supervised the preliminary investigation conducted by the DPR State Security Ministry. The court passed a substantiated sentence which came into force,” the press service said.

The PGO told the Donetsk News Agency that from September 2015 to September 2017, the suspect gathered intelligence on locations of DPR militia units and their movements which he passed to his liaison from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), and that in March 2016, when he stayed in a Kiev-controlled area, he was trained in handling explosives.

The court found the defendant guilty of the crimes covered by DPR Criminal Code Article 321 (espionage), Article 232 (training for the purpose of carrying acts of terror) and Article 233, Part 2 (participation in a terrorist group). He was sentenced to 17 years in a maximum security prison.

The verdict was passed on August 9, 2019, the PGO said.*jk
