Donetsk, Nov 24 — DAN. Ukrainian artillery attacks on Thursday morning have left the Verkhnekalmiusskaya Water Treatment Plant without power again, Donetsk mayor Alexey Kulemzin said.
“The Voda Donbassa state unitary enterprise reported a power outage at the Verkhnekalmiusskaya Water Treatment Plant at 10:00 as a result of hostilities, ” Kulemzin said.
On Tuesday, the facility and the town of Yasinovataya were left without electricity due to shelling by Ukrainian forces as a core 110kW electrical substation caught fire. The blackout affected some 16,000 customers, the central hospital, a dozen boiler houses and water supply infrastructure. Water supply was stopped in Donetsk, Yasinovataya and part of Makeyevka. On Wednesday evening, repair teams restored power to the Water Treatment Plant and a large portion of the Yasinovataya residential area. Water supply in the town was expected to resume within 24 hours.
Ukrainian forces regularly shell key water supply facilities in the Republic. The DPR has been experiencing water shortages since February. The situation remains very tense. Large towns such as Donetsk, Makeyevka and Yasinovataya have scheduled water supply or none at all.*jk
