Donetsk, Sep 1 — DAN. Ukrainian army has used cluster munitions to shell the Donetsk People’s Republic 244 times since 2022 killing 55 people, the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination of issues related to Ukraine’s war crimes reported on Friday.
“The JCCC recorded 244 cluster bomb strikes in the period from January 1, 2022 to September 1, 2023, ” the report said.
Cluster projectiles were fired by 155mm artillery (185 cases), MLRS “Uragan” (44 cases), MLRS “Grad” (6), MLRS “Smerch” (2) and Tochka-U tactical systems (7). Fifty-five people including six children were killed and another 198 including 19 children were wounded in cluster munition strikes. Damage was caused to 365 buildings.
The JCCC also reported 19 cases of remote mining with PTM-1 anti-tank mines and “Lepestok” anti-personnel mines. At least 129 people including 11 children were wounded in “Lepestok” explosions. Three civilians later died of their wounds.*jk
