Donetsk, Jan 24 – DAN. Ilovaisk authorities plan to carry through the prewar project to build a gas supply line for some 7,000 consumers in the residential housing sector, town administration head Sergey Mukovnin told Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday.

“Part of our town (multi-storied blocks of flats – eds DAN) has gas supply, while the other part where private households are located has not. A gas pipeline project exists, and it’s actually almost completed. The available gas pipeline will have a 200-meter extension, a gas control unit will be built and we’ll have consumers’ homes connected to the gas pipe,” Mukovkin said.

The project, intended for the private housing sector was partially implemented by Ukrainian authorities, however, the funds were not fully disbursed and Kiev suspended the works and later froze them altogether because of the Donbass war.

Ilovaisk, located east of DPR capital, is one of the worst-hit towns in Donbass. Ukrainian forces attacked it in the summer of 2014. Ilovaisk entrapment became a symbol of Ukrainian army defeat which left more than 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers dead. The town was liberated on 29 August 2014. Rebuilding of Ilovaisk is ongoing. *jk
