Donetsk, Dec 7 - DAN. Donetsk Electrical Engineering Plant launched the project to manufacture modern trams, the DPR Industry and Trade Ministry press service told Donetsk News Agency on Thursday.

“We’ll launch tram production from scratch; the old models will be upgraded,” the press service said. “Implementation of the project is underway. We’ll roll out the first trams next year.”

It is a long-term project split into several phases.

On Thursday, acting Industry and Trade Minister Alexey Granovskiy visited the company. “Domestic tram production will provide new means of transport to the Republic’s residents, improve business environment and enhance production efficiency,” the press service quoted Granovskiy as saying.

At present, company engineers are examining old models technical documents and working on the new design and production equipment. Project cost estimates will follow.
