Donetsk, Feb 9 - DAN. Volunteers from Ukrainian regions, European countries and former Soviet republics have started coming to the Donetsk People’s Republic to defend Donbass residents, DPR People’s Militia deputy commander Eduard Basurin said on Wednesday.

“Amid the preparations for the Ukrainian aggression against the independent Republics, many volunteers are turning up, ready to defend, together with People’s Militia fighters, the independence of Donbass from the Kiev Nazi regime,” Basurin said. “Volunteers are coming from Ukrainian regions as they cannot tolerate the rule of Ukrainian nationalists any more, from CIS countries and other European states.”

The DPR is ready to give a fitting rebuff to Ukrainian troops, he added.

Tensions in Donbass have been mounting since mid-January. After the New Year and Christmas holidays, Ukrainian forces stepped up strikes in Donbass and began to deploy reinforcements to the region. The DPR militia said that enemy group had been reinforced with radicals, multiple launch rocket systems and NATO weapons. Kiev’s militaristic rhetoric is aggravating the situation.*jk
