Donetsk, Oct 13 - DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic leader Alexander Zakharchenko has accused Ukraine of violating the Minsk Agreements by using combat aviation in the conflict zone. In the latest fighting, Ukrainian forces attacked DPR positions using a helicopter gunship, he said.
“There’s been an attempt to attack us using a helicopter. It failed; the helicopter was damaged and landed in the Ukrainian-controlled area,” the DPR leader said.
On Wednesday, the Ukrainian army attempted to break through DPR defense positions near the villages of Kominternovo and Leninskoye. According to the DPR Command, groups of mercenaries engaged DPR units trying to outflank them from different directions and capture them.
The DPR fighters repelled the attack killing 15 enemies and wounding another 25.
Under Item 7 of the Minsk Memorandum dated September 19, 2014, the use of operational aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles is prohibited along the Сontact Line in the security zone having a width of at least 30 kilometers. The provision does not apply to the pilotless aircraft operated by the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission.
