Donetsk, Oct 19 – DAN. Ukrainian forces have shelled the frontline area of the Donetsk People’s Republic 595 times in the past 24 hours, DPR Operations Command deputy chief Eduard Basurin said at a news briefing at the Donetsk News Agency on Wednesday.

“By and large, there’s been a sharp aggravation of the situation in the Donetsk People’s Republic,” Basurin said. “Ukrainian militants have violated the ceasefire 595 times, employing heavy artillery and mortars in 491 cases.”

According to the DPR Command, the following DPR southern settlements came under Ukrainian fire: Leninskoye, Sakhanka, Novaya Tavriya, Bezymennoye, Kominternovo, Yasinovataya and its villages Vasilyevka and Zhabichevo, Gorlovka and the settlements of Zaitsevo and Shirokaya Balka, northern and western outskirts of the capital including the Donetsk airport area, and the Trudovskiye and Aleksandrovka settlements.

“Three households were damaged by artillery fire in Bezymennoye,” Basurin added.

Earlier on Wednesday, reports said that Ukrainian forces have fired some 200 rounds on the south of the Donetsk People’s Republic since Tuesday causing a power failure in part of Novoazovsk district. Ukrainian forces also used white phosphorus munitions when shelling the outskirts of Gorlovka.
