Donetsk, Jan 4 - DAN. Ukrainian forces opened fire in Maryinka crossing point area west of Donetsk when civilians were present there, DPR Operations Command deputy commander Eduard Basurin said on Thursday.

“Yesterday, at 10:45 a.m., Ukrainian side carried out a new provocation in Maryinka crossing point area,” Basurin said. “The crossing point came under large calibre machine gun fire when civilians were present there; Ukraine then unilaterally closed the checkpoint.”

“We did not respond to the provocation, we didn’t return fire,” he said.

Basurin said OSCE representatives were in the crossing point area as of the time of shelling and urged them to conduct a probe into the incident. *jk
