Donetsk, Aug 9 - DAN. Ukrainian forces killed their servicemen who was walking towards Donetsk People’s Republic defence lines to surrender to militia, but strayed from the route, DPR Operations Command spokesman Daniil Bezsonov said on Thursday.
“Yesterday (August 8 - eds Donetsk News Agency), a Ukrainian army serviceman made a courageous attempt to stop his involvement in the Joint Forces Operation and defect to our side,” Bezsonov said. “As he was approaching our positions, Ukrainian troops opened massive fire with mortars and small arms. The servicemen died of his wounds.”
The DPR militia retrieved the body. He had a service weapon on him and the document identifying him as Pvt Dmitriy Ukrainskiy, a Donetsk region native.
Bezsonov said that Ukrainskiy had used special number (+380995012728) to inform the DPR about his defection plan. "However, the situation changed and he came out in a different place and time; in other circumstances things might have been different," the spokesman said.
