Donetsk, Mar 10 - DAN. Ukrainian army units in the Petrovskoye disengagement zone opened fire towards this settlement, the Donetsk People’s Republic Office at the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination reported on Tuesday.

“At 9:30, Ukrainian army units opened small arms fire towards the Petrovskoye village (within the boundaries of the disengagement zone),” the JCCC said.

No further details were immediately available.

Earlier, the DPR People’s Militia said that Ukrainian forces had organised new positions in the Petrovskoye-Bogdanovka disengagement zone for the first time since all the troops withdrew from it in November 2019.

Under the accords reached by the Contact Group, the Petrovskoye-Bogdanovka disengagement area has to be completely free of military units and hardware. This area is monitored by OSCE Special Monitoring Mission personnel.

The Petrovskoye village is located on the contact line some 40 kilometres south of Donetsk. Bogdanovka-Petrovskoye is one of the three pilot disengagement areas in Donbass, in accordance with the Framework Agreement signed by the Contact Group participants in Minsk in September 2016.  The conflicting parties disengaged back in October 2016, but later on, Ukrainian troops returned to their positions. It was only on November 11, 2019 that the sides fully withdrew their units.*jk
