Donetsk, Jul 26 — DAN. The mopping up operation against Ukrainian gunmen on the premises of the Uglegosk thermal power plant in the Svetlodarsk area might last more than one day, Debaltsevo mayor Igor Zakharevich told the Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday.
“The Uglegorsk CHP plant is the largest in Europe, it’s even larger that the Starobeshevo plant, so mopping up cannot be done instantly. We control the enterprise but the mop up is still underway, ” the mayor said.
Reports on Monday said the Novoluganskoye settlement and the Uglegorsk CHP plant outside Svetlodarsk were being cleared of Ukrainian forces.
The Uglegorsk CHP plant, one of the largest in Europe, can generate up to 3,600 megawatt of electricity. The facility is located some three kilometers from the Svetlodarsk satellite town and the settlements of Mironovsky and Novoluganskoye. Svetlodarsk is situated 18 kilometers north of Debaltsevo and finds itself within its responsibility zone.*jk
