Donetsk, Sep 12 — DAN. The town of Svyatogorsk in the north of the Donetsk People’s Republic remains under control of the coalition forces, town administration head Vladimir Bandura told the Donetsk News Agency on Monday.
Earlier on Monday, rumors appeared on social media that Ukrainian invaders had seized Svyatogorsk. Photos showing a Ukrainian flag on the Town Hall were posted as proof.
“Svyatogorsk is under our control, it is being defended, ” Bandura said. “As far as I know, DPR and Russian forces are fighting the Ukrainian army in the Bogorodichnoye village area.”
The DPR and Russian forces seized Svyatogorsk on June 9. On July 2, the town set up the local administration. Vladimir Bandura who had run the town since 2020 was appointed its head. Svyatogorsk is temporarily included in the responsibility zone of Yenakiyevo authorities.
Bogorodichnoye is a suburb of Svyatogorsk. It is located on the right bank of the Seversky Donets river southwest of the town and on the key road linking Svyatogorsk and Slavyansk. Bogorodichnoye was liberated from Ukrainian invaders in the beginning of the summer.*jk
