Donetsk, May 27 – DAN. Alexey Chesnakov, political scientist and director of the Center for Current Politics said that there were no perspectives of peaceful settlement in Donbass in the short run.

"No perspectives at all," he said. "(Ukrainian president Vladimir) Zelensky said before assuming the post officially that he was not going to implement the Minsk Agreements; that Donbass was not going to be granted special status; it is a blunt and straightforward refusal to fulfill the main, key, basic requirement of the Minsk Agreements."

Chesnakov reminded of the new Ukrainian president's refusal to carry out direct talks with DPR and LPR representatives, unwillingness to sign amnesty law and revoke language law.
"Where does it place the Minsk Agreements? What is left of them? He shows disrespect towards Donbass, OSCE, Germany, France and Russia who stopped the war and drafted solutions for Ukraine's south-east in a strenuous discussion," Chesnakov said.

The peaceful settlement of the Donbas crises is based on the Minsk Agreements dated 5 September 2014 and, followed by the 19 September 2014 Memorandum on the ceasefire implementation. On 12 February 2015 the negotiators signed the Package of Measures for the Implementation of the Minsk Agreements; it sets forth immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in effect from 15 February 2015; withdrawal of heavy weapons, establishment of a security zone; discussion of modalities of resuming social payments in Donbass; a constitutional reform in Ukraine aimed at a profound decentralization of the state’s system of government. *ot
