Donetsk, Jan 5 – DAN. Ukrainian forces opened fire at DPR territory 427 times over the past 24 hours, DPR Operations Command deputy commander Eduard Basurin said on Thursday.

“The enemy fired 73 82mm and 120mm mortar rounds and 133 grenade launcher rounds and also used IFV cannons and small arms,” Basurin said.

Ukrainian army targeted Zaitsevo and Zheleznaya Balka villages outside Gorlovka. Northwest of the town, in Kiev-occupied Konstantinovka area, DPR intelligence spotted a trainload of weapons and hardware, including seven tanks, six Grad MLRS, six Akatsia 152mm howitzers, and six D-30 122mm towed howitzers, he said.

The situation in DPR south remained tense as Sakhanka, Leninskoye and Kominternovo villages in Novoazovskiy district came under fire.

Ukrainian forces targeted Donetsk’s suburban areas in vicinity of Aleksandrovka, Spartak, Zhabichevo, Krutaya Balka villages and Yasinovataya town.

According to DPR intelligence, Ukrainian army plans to advance deeper into the ‘grey zone’ to gain foothold in Donetsk water treatment plant area, the key water supply facility for the city. Any fighting in the area threatens water supply to DPR settlements and Ukraine-controlled territory.

A ceasefire was agreed by the Contact Group at its meeting on December 21st, in effect from midnight December 24th Kiev time – 1 a.m. December 24th DPR time, but shelling by Ukrainian forces continues. *jk
