Donetsk, Jun 6 - DAN. A criminal case over act of terror was filed against a Ukrainian army commander complicit in the recent shelling of the Donetsk mosque, the Donetsk People’s Republic Prosecutor General’s Office press service reported on Thursday.
“Criminal proceedings were opened against Ukrainian army’s 57th Separate Motorised Infantry Brigade commander Anatoly Mishanchuk, who ordered to shell Donetsk’s Kuibyshev district with mortars,” the report said.
Ahat Jami is the first cathedral mosque built in Donbass. It was shelled on June 4, 2019 halfway through celebrations of the Uraza Bayram holiday. Fire was delivered with mortars when believers were in and around the building. Luckily, there were no casualties. DPR Muslim communities representatives said they would appeal to international organisations in connection with the incident.
Proceedings were also initiated against Ukrainian army brigade commanders Ivan Garaz and Dmitry Bryzhinsky whose subordinates shelled Gorlovka and Yasinovataya on June 4-6. The cases were opened under DPR Criminal Code Article 229, Part 2 (act of terror).*jk
