Donetsk, May 7 - DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic militia has unveiled details of the service record of Alexander Syrskiy who was appointed commander of the Ukrainian joint forces operation in Donbass on Monday.

“A quite 'worthy' replacement. In early 2015, (Alexander) Syrskiy was chief of the headquarters of the so-called anti-terrorist operation. It was during this period that the Ukrainian Sector S group was almost completely destroyed in the “Debaltsevo pocket,” DPR militia spokesman Daniil Bezsonov said. "Syrskiy commanded Ukrainian army units that were defeated in the battles for Uglegorsk and the Redkodub village and in the failed attempt to retake Logvinovo".

Ukrainian media outlets reported that a new commander of the Ukrainian joint forces operation was appointed on May 6. He is replacing Sergey Nayev who has led the operation since March 2018.*jk
