Donbass, Sep 28 - DAN. The security situation in Donbass will continue to deteriorate without finalizing the coordination mechanism for verification of ceasefire violations, Donetsk People’s Republic representative in the Contact Group security subgroup Alexey Nikonorov said on Tuesday.

“Reviewing and finalizing the draft addendum to the measures to strengthen the ceasefire requires a conceptual decision. If we do not decide now on how interaction will take place between the parties, the security situation will continue to deteriorate,” Nikonorov said in comments on the results of the subgroup’s video conference.

The Joint Centre for Control and Coordination reported that 12 houses, three infrastructure facilities and three cars have been damaged in ceasefire violations by Ukrainian forces over the two weeks since the previous session of the subgroup.

The Contact Group agreed and signed a package of tighter ceasefire control measures in Donbass on July 22, 2020. The document bans the use of all weapons, deployment of hardware, special operations, engineer works and unmanned aerial vehicle flights. The “Measures” envisioned the development of a coordination mechanism at the level of the JCCC to search for and punish ceasefire violators, but these plans have not been implemented. *jk
