Donetsk, Mar 21 — DAN. Some 3,500 coal miners joined the army to defend the Motherland as the special military operation began, said the press service of the Donetsk People’s Republic Coal and Energy Ministry.

“The DPR coal-mining sector (the state-owned companies under control of the Ministry) employ some 19,500 people, ” the press service told the Donetsk News Agency. “As of today, about 3,500 coal miners are fighting for the country.”

The coal-mining sector is very short-staffed, which is a major factor behind a decrease in production, it added.

Earlier reports said that three of the 14 state-run coal mines in the DPR had stopped operation due to hostilities.*jk
