Donetsk, Jul 10 — DAN. The exhibition “Russian Borders” under the aegis of the “Smolensk Fortress” State Museum will open in Torez on Monday. It highlights the establishment and development of Russian fortresses in the territory of the new regions, the press service of the Donetsk People’s Republic Culture Ministry said.
“The project shows the timeline of Russian fortresses in the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, ” the Ministry told the Donetsk News Agency. The “Russian Borders” comprises 14 sections on fortress construction benchmarks, featuring drawings and layouts of fortresses, graphic reconstruction and models of fortifications, copies of historical prints and paintings as well as modern photos. Images of defenders of the Russian borders in the 16-18th centuries help create the atmosphere of the epoch.”
Each item on display has as a QR code with a link to the online encyclopedia “Architectural Glossary” on the website of the Smolensk Fortress museum, which describes elements of fortress architecture.
The Ministry of Culture said that it is the first exhibition within the framework of the agreement between the Donetsk Republican Local History Museum and the “Smolensk Fortress” State Museum signed in November 2022. The exhibition will run until July 28.
“Smolensk Fortress, ” established in 2022, includes restored parts of walls and towers of the largest brick fortress in the world dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Overall, 18 towers and about three kilometers of walls have been preserved up to date. The museum studies architectural heritage and engages in large presentations of Russian military history.*jk
