Donetsk, Jul 20 - DAN. Donetsk State Academic Philharmonic Society artists will perform at 11 open-air concerts in DPR capital from July through September.
“Donetsk Philharmonic Society will carry out 11 free open-air concerts for city residents and guests in the near future,” the Philharmonic Society press service said on Thursday.
The first concert in Donetsk will take place as early as 22 July. It heralds the beginning of the Summer Evenings action on Krupskaya Library premises at which the Viola chamber orchestra is expected to perform. Summer Evenings concerts will also take place on 5 and 19 August. The concert programme includes popular classical and modern works and iconic pieces.
Viola will also perform at the concert by the Donbass Liberators Memorial Complex on 26 August.
The wind instruments orchestra will resume Nights at the Fountain concerts which Donetsk residents came to like so much. They will run on Lenin Square on 6, 13, and 20 August and 3, 10, 17 and 24 September starting at 5.30 p.m.
“At the previous seasons, the Philharmonic Society’s open-air audience reached dozens of thousands people, so we’re stepping up work on this track. Open-air concerts are freely available and interesting, benefiting city residents in their leisure activities. We’re happy to help them,” the press service quoted Philharmonic Society Director Alexander Paretskiy as saying.
Donetsk State Academic Philharmonic Society is located in central Voroshilovskiy district. In 1959, it installed the organ which famous composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky used to play when he was a St Petersburg Conservatoire student.
The Philharmonic Society arranges domestic and international festivals such as the well-known Prokofyev Spring, Donetsk Gems, Jazz Forum, Piano Forum etc. The Philharmonic Society suspended its work only once over 85 years of its existence, in the period from the beginning of the Great Patriotic War in 1941 until 1944. *jk
