The Solovyanenko Donetsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Kremlin Ballet Theatre will present in 2023 the ballet “War and Peace” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s epic novel, ” Donbass Opera Director General, DPR People’s Artist Yevgeny Denisenko told the Donetsk News Agency.
“The Theatre plans to show several operas, ballets and operettas for the first time this year including composer Vyasheslav Ovchinnikov’s ‘War and Peace’ ballet, ” a joint project with the Kremlin Ballet from Moscow, ” Denisenko said. “We’ve been working on the ‘Prince Igor’ opera for more than a year; we scheduled its first night for March 2022 to mark the 90th anniversary of our Theatre, but it didn’t work out. We hope that we’ll finish this work in 2023 and show the opera to Donbass residents.”
Wolfgang Mozart’s opera-buffa “Don Juan”, “Kaschey the Deathless” and “Scheherazade” by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and Imre Kalman’s operetta “Queen of Czardas” will be performed for the first time as well, he added.
The comic opera “Key on the Pavement (A Husband at the Door) by Jacques Offenbach is fully ready, and we’re waiting for the opportunity to present it to the audience. Other shows are still in the works. ‘We’re not idling, we continue to work despite everything. We rehearse, dance and play to keep our hand in and maintain our creativity level. We give guest performances, ’ the director general said.
Soviet and Russian composer Vyasheslav Ovchinnikov wrote music to the “War and Peace” ballet in 1965-1967. His music is played in the Oscar-winning “War and Peace” film directed by Sergey Bondarchuk.*jk
