Donetsk, Oct 10 - DAN. The night in the disengagement zone in the Petrovskoye village area south of Donetsk passed without shooting, the Donetsk People’s Republic Office at the Joint Centre for Control and Coordination told the Donetsk News Agency on Thursday.
“The night in the Petrovskoye disengagement zone was peaceful. The ceasefire held in the morning as well,” the JCCC said.
Today, at 12:00 (the local time coincides with Moscow time), a second attempt will be made to begin the elimination of violations in the disengagement zone in accordance with the plan approved by the Contact Group The first attempt was failed by Ukraine on Wednesday, as it did not confirm its readiness for the process in response to DPR representatives’ mirror move.
Representatives of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission and the DPR Office at the JCCC are expected to arrive at the scene to watch the process.
According to the plan, DPR militiamen will fire white flares at 12:00 to signal the DPR’s readiness. Ukraine has to respond in kind. If it happens, the sides will fire green flares to signal the beginning of the elimination of violations.
On October 1, the Contact Group in Minsk coordinated the schedule plan to eliminate the violations in the Petrovskoye and Zolotoye disengagement zones starting October 7. The process had to last 30 days.
The Contact Group participants - DPR, LPR, Ukraine, Russia and OSCE signed the framework agreement on disengagement of forces in Donbass in late September 2016. The document set three pilot security areas: Petrovskoye in the DPR and Stanitsa Luganskaya and Zolotoye in the LPR. The parties did not rule out disengagement along the entire contact line in the future. The conflicting parties units disengaged in Zolotoye and Petrovskoye back in October 2016. Meanwhile, the DPR and LPR repeatedly reported an unstable situation in these zones where Ukrainian troops were spotted again.*jk
