Donetsk, Mar 16 – DAN. A world-renowned Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky became the subject of a mural in Naples, Italy, the DPR Foreign Ministry said.
"A mural appeared in Naples depicting Russian writer Fedor Dostoevsky as a sign of support for Russian people," the Ministry said.
The author, Italian street artist named Jorit, painted it as a protest against attempts to cancel Russian culture, such as the decision of the University of Milano-Bicocca to drop a course on the 19th-century Russian novelist.
Italian expert on Dostoevsky announced two weeks ago on his social media that the university decided to cancel his course on the Russian writer "to avoid controversy over the special military operation in Ukraine".
Jorit Ciro Cerullo is an Italian street artist known for his political statements he conveys through his art. He is the author of the largest portrait of Yuri Gagarin in the world, which he painted in Moscow. He was expelled from Israel in 2018 for painting a mural depicting Palestinian protester imprisoned by Israel for slapping two soldiers.
Russia started a special military operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the decision was made after the DPR and LPR Heads addressed him asking for help.
The Russian leader said that Moscow is not planning to occupy Ukrainian territory, the only goal is to protect people who have been continuously shelled and subjected to other forms of genocide by Ukraine for eight years.
