Donetsk, Mar 29 - DAN. The water supply situation in the Donetsk People’s Republic capital is catastrophic, city administration head Alexey Kulemzin said in his address to the local population.
The Seversky Donets - Donbass canal is the main water supply source for Donetsk. Strikes by Ukrainian armed formations caused power outages at the key water supply facilities including Yuzhnodobassky Duct’s 1st level pumping station. Water has been supplied to the city from a backup reservoir since; several Donetsk districts have been cut off from water supply since early March.
“Dramatic shortages prompted the authorities to reduce water supply but this did not solve the problem. The water reserve will be depleted within two weeks. On March 30, the city will turn off central heating. It is a forced measure to save the water which is daily fed to heat distribution networks,” the city mayor said.
Earlier, the Yasinovataya mayor announced a similar measure.
On Monday, the authorities decided to reduce water supply to two hours every other day. Earlier, they turned off hot water for customers to economize. *jk
