Donetsk, May 27 – DAN. The Voda Donbassa water company has announced it has cut off water supply for a number of cities in Kiev-controlled Donbass due to the power outage of its filtration stations.

"Today at 11.15 a.m. following the Ukrenergo energy company demand, the power distribytion system operator DTEK PES-Energougol cut off power supply to the Artyemovsk water treatment facility," the statement reads.

Artyomovsk and Soledar, and four neighboring townships remain without water supply. According to DAN estimates, up to 90,000 customers might be affected, excluding internally displaced persons who might have settled there as a result of the armed conflict.

Soledar also houses the JCCC HQ.

Energy suppliers began cutting off electricity to water facilities on May 23, leaving 16 townships without access to centralized water supply.

The situation deteriorated in March, when Voda Donbass debt to power suppliers reached critical 1 billion hryvnia. The power down of the Voda Donbassa company might result in an ecological disaster. In March the Ukrainian government decided to prolong open-ended contracts of Ukrenergo with Voda Donbassa until the water company finds another power supplier. *ot
