Donetsk, Sep 7 - DAN. Experts of the inter-departmental Commission on the search for missing persons and burial sites in Donbass conflict zones retrieved remains of 19 people from a mass grave in Snezhnoye, Donetsk People’s Republic ombudswoman, Commission Head Darya Morozova told the Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday.
“Remains of 19 people were retrieved from unmarked graves in the Ovsyanoye cemetery,” Morozova said. “Preliminary examination found that most of the victims are local residents killed as a result of Ukrainian aggression in the summer of 2014.”
Identification of the remains is underway. The next exhumation at this burial site is scheduled for September 9-10. The search group plans to retrieve the remains of another 30 war victims who are supposedly buried there, she added.
The first remains were exhumed in Snezhnoye’s Ovsyanoe cemetery on August 19. The bodies of four people were retrieved in the first hours of work. One of the exhumed bodies belonged to a man had a gunshot wound to the head, the other victim, also a man, had mine blast traumas.
The inter-departmental Commission on the search for missing persons, burial sites and bodies (remains) of people killed in Donbass armed conflict zones was set up in early August. It includes officials from the DPR Head Administration, prosecutors and representatives of the Interior Ministry, Emergencies Ministry, State Security Ministry and other government bodies.*jk
