Donetsk, Jan 18 – DAN. DPR Head Denis Pushilin said he is sure that fraternal peoples of the Russian World should be united on the basis of common values.

"I believe that the time of a new Pereyaslav Council has come. Soon we shall sign an immutable agreement of unity and brotherhood to join the multi-million Russian community into the fold of our common Motherland," he said in his speech to the convention to celebrate 365th anniversary of the Pereyaslav Council.

The Pereyaslav Council was convened in 1654 for a ceremonial pledge of allegiance by Cossacks to the Tsar of Muscovy in the town of Pereyaslav (now Pereiaslav-Khmelnytskyi in central Ukraine). Cossack Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky secured the military protection of the Tsardom of Russia in exchange for allegiance to the Tsar while leading a major anti-Polish uprising in the Zaporizhye lands. Supported by popular masses and by the Crimean Kahnate he won a number of victories over the government forces of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

"The only way to withstand enemies of the Russian World is to unite. This is true for today as it was true for past centuries."
