Donetsk, Nov 29 - DAN. The Donetsk People’s Republic has more than 4,500 civil defence facilities as of today, the DPR Emergencies Ministry Public Relations and International Activities Department head Natalia Getova told the Donetsk News Agency on Thursday.
“There are more than 4,500 protective shelters in the DPR territory; their number has increased by 8.5 times since 2014,” Getova said.
“The number of shelters keeps increasing thanks to local self-rule bodies; a majority were built in cellars or basements of buildings in residential areas as well as at DPR civil defence facilities,” she added.
DPR rescuers help to maintain the protective shelters; the maintenance is under constant supervision, Getova said.
DPR authorities believe that tensions might mount in the conflict zone following the introduction of martial law in Ukraine. Ukrainian forces might step up fighting in Donbass any minute.
Martial law is imposed across Ukraine or some of its areas in accordance with the law “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law” to provide military authorities and leadership with unlimited power.*jk
