Donetsk, Dec 15 – DAN. Head of the Gusak Donetsk Emergency and Restorative Surgery Institute Emil Fistal performed more than 15 unique skin grafting surgeries over a year.
“Complex skin graft surgeries were performed over the last year. Compared with most cases, they were unique, with donor skin taken from family members,” Thermal Injuries Department surgeon Fistal told DAN on Thursday. “More than 15 such operations have been performed.”
Overall, Fistal has performed some 200 operations since the beginning of this year.
Prof. Emil Fistal, M.D., is the author of 400 scientific articles and 32 inventions. He is a Russia-US Combustiology Association fellow, Ukraine State Prize laureate, Ukraine’s honored worker of sciences and engineering and winner of Prizvaniye Prize awarded to best Russian doctors.
Fistal carried out more than 20,000 surgeries overall. His best known case is first ever surgery on a patient with 97 percent deep skin burns (60 percent skin burns are regarded as terminal). No similar cases have been recorded elsewhere in the world since. The professor recently marked his 77th birthdate. *jk
