Donetsk, Nov 7 - DAN. The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People’s Republic passed a death sentence on a man found guilty of raping and murdering a child, the press service of the Republic’s top judicial body said on Tuesday.

“The court ascertained that the man raped and sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in Shakhtyorsk town on 21 August 2015. Trying to avoid punishment, he killed the child. The defendant is sentenced to death and confiscation of all his property for the totality of the crimes committed ,” the press service said.

The man has a criminal record including a conviction for violent rape of a minor, it added.

The Donetsk People’s Republic legislation envisions capital punishment for particularly serious offenses. Capital punishment is not applied to minors, women and persons who have turned 65 by the moment of verdict announcement.

The first ever death sentence in DPR was passed in December 2015 on Anatoly Yakubenko found guilty of first-degree murders. *jk
