Donetsk, May 28 - DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic ombudswoman Darya Morozova issued a statement calling upon the international community to give a legal assessment of Kiev’s use of attack drones against Donbass civilian population.

Reports on Monday said that as an elderly woman was wounded in a strike delivered by a Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle at Gorlovka’s Nikitovskiy district. Ukrainian servicemen had reportedly upgraded the drone for grenade dropping.

“The use of unmanned aerial vehicles for targeting residential areas is a banned warfare method which contradicts the baisc principles of the Geneva Convention for the protection of civilians in times of war. The DPR urges the international community to give a legal assessment to Ukraine’s actions and use all available means to prevent further escalation,” the ombudswoman said.

Morozova also urged action in the letters to international rights organisations and OSCE coordinator at the Contact Group humanitarian subgroup Toni Frisch.*jk
