Donetsk, Nov 28 - DAN. DPR mountaineers plan to climb Africa’s tallest mountain Kilimanjaro in December, the Republic’s Mountaineering Federation Vice President Olga Ovcharenko told Donetsk News Agency on Tuesday.

"The Donetsk People’s Republic mountaineering team will embark on an expedition to Africa’s top summit Kilimanjaro on 1 December,” Ovcharenko said. “The ascent is part of the fourth leg of Russia’s High Altitude Mountaineering Cup.”

The Republic has been running the project DPR Flag on World Mountain Peaks since 2015. DPR mountain climbers have hoisted the Republic’s flags on Europe’s tallest mountain Elbrus, the 5,000-metre high Kazbek mountain in the Caucasus, the Aconcagua in Argentina and the Lenin Peak in Kyrgyzstan since the project was launched. An unnamed 3,795-metre high mountain is now known as the Peak of the Donetsk People’s Republic.

Kilimanjaro ascent was planned for May 2016, but DPR mountaineers postponed the trip.

Kilimanjaro is a potentially active African stratovolcano in north-eastern Tanzania. It is the highest mountain on the continent reaching an elevation of 5,895 meters above sea level. The summit of the mountain was first reached in 1889. *jk
