Donetsk, Jun 25 - DAN. Commander of the Pyatnashka battalion Oleg Mamiyev (call sign Mamai) who was killed when defending Donbass on May 17, 2018, has been awarded the title of Donetsk People’s Republic Hero.
“Donetsk People’s Republic Head Alexander Zakharchenko, by Decree No 181, has awarded the title of DPR Hero to Pyatnashka battalion commander Oleg Mamiyev (call sign Mamai) posthumously,” a statement on the Republic leader’s official website said.
Oleg Mamiyev took part in fighting in South Ossetia. He arrived in Donbass after the coup d’etat in Kiev. He participated in many military operations and fought in the Vostok unit. Later on, he joined the Pyatnashka battalion and soon became its commander.
Mamiyev was fatally wounded in the evening of May 17 as he was defending the Republic in the Yasinovataya area. DPR residents paid their last respects to the Donbass defender on May 19. He was buried in his native North Ossetia.*jk
