Donetsk, Jan 10 — DAN. Donetsk People’s Republic doctors have performed the first-ever surgery to remove a pelvic bone tumor in a 16-year-old boy, the regional Healthcare Ministry reported on Tuesday.

“A 16-year-old adolescent with a voluminous pelvic bone tumor in a hard-to-reach area was admitted to the Republican Trauma Center, ” the Ministry said. “The doctors removed the tumor and restored the post-surgery bone defect with a bioimplant.”

It was the first such surgery in the Republic. It lasted three hours.

“Despite the atypical tumor site in a hard-to-reach area we succeeded in removing as much of the new growth as possible within normal tissue. Bioimplant insertion enabled the patient to get back on his feet two days later. Previously, such patients had to stay in bed for about month, ” the Ministry quoted Republican Trauma Center Children’s Department Director Yevgeny Zhilitsyn as saying.

The adolescent is taking a rehabilitation course in the Trauma Center, health officials said.*jk
